The Top 20 Mistakes That Kill Your Muscle Gains...And How to Avoid Them I have experimented with every possible training system and diet under the sun because the desire to get bigger has always been an obsession of mine for as long as I can remember. You see, when I was young, I was always the weakest, scrawniest kid around. I was the one who always got made fun of, who always got picked last in gym class or on the playground and who always got bullied by all the bigger kids. I hated it and desperately wanted to change my life for the better.

The Fitness Modeling world is a very competitive market, and knowing what the ins and outs are can dramatically increase your chances of being in the magazines and on covers of catalogs and postcards like I was for over six years.
Often times what people don't realize is that you have to be lean and have muscle to be a fitness model. You can't have a swimmer's body or a Brad Pitt body with just average muscle. You have to have some size, but too much isn't good either. There is a careful balance of what type of look you must have in order for you to become somewhat successful. Another thing I want to mention is the v-taper look. I believe having a thin waist with wide back and shoulders will give you an edge in photographers eyes than with someone who has got a lot of muscle, but is blocky and doesn't have the width to them. I think a lot of pro bodybuilder types who are real thick and stocky, are horrible fitness models. They also have a hard look to them an attribute that most people don't fine appealing. For the past 6 years or so I have been with Physiquebodyware and have used me time and time again because I am a little taller and have the v-taper look. Other models have come and gone, because the owners told me that the real "hard look" isn't what fitness modeling is all about to sell their clothes.
Having a decent looking face and nice teeth and smile can't hurt as well. This is the modeling world, and can be harsh at times, but the bottom line is if you don't have that certain look, physically you will have a very difficult time in making it in this industry. I suggest getting a few shots taken of yourself to show off you body and close ups to show off your face. Then simply take them to people you know who will be brutally honest with you and ask them their opinion. If you get a positive response from most people you may be on to something here. I would also take a look at your body condition and skin complexion as well. Make sure your ab line is very visible and your skin is pretty tight with a good base tan BEFORE you submit the photos to agents, magazines, or clothing companies. You have to look your best to show them what you have at the present, not some photo where you are out of shape and pasty white. It just won't cut it for this business. Take a variety of photos as well, using different wardrobe selections and different angles to really show off your body. Make is so that you have done this before and make it look very natural. Once you take about two dozen different photos, be prepared to send your 8-10 BEST ones to a variety of magazines, clothing and supplement manufacturers and agents.
Be consistent in your mailings and contacts, and don't give up so easily. I took me about 2 and half years to get my first job, and from there I got many more opportunities. Be patient and work hard toward your goal, especially if you know you got what it takes. Who knows maybe you will be the next big thing in Fitness Modeling.
